Hip Hop Dance Crews8/6/2021 https://www.mediafire.com/file/bnn3o2kxqr6rsw6/1627750609.pdf/file When people think of American hip hop dance, they often think of breakdancing from the days of the early 1990s. Hip hop and breakdancing are an instant connection in many peoples minds if they only hear the two terms together. However in recent years, Asian-American college hip-hop dancing teams have been rapidly growing out of the underground, especially in California. This rise in interest in this form of dancing came about as a result of the growth of Asian immigrants to the U.S., and America's increasingly multi-cultural society. By embracing the breakdancing culture of their heritage, Asian Americans not only gained respect for their dances, but also found a unique way to connect with others of like culture. american hip hop dance One of the most important aspects of the growth of the Asian American breakdancing community was the establishment of organizations. In the early 1990s, these groups were mostly made up of Asian Americans in New York City, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. However, with the rise of popularity of hip-hop dance in mainstream America, there was a growing presence of these types of dance crews throughout the country. In most cases, these Asian American hip-hop dancing crews did not receive much attention from the media, as they were typically underground. As a result, many of these new American hip-hop dancing crews never had the opportunity to be showcased in national media events such as televised competitions, making them even more scarce than ever before. https://www.mediafire.com/file/bnn3o2kxqr6rsw6/1627750609.pdf/file In recent years, however, as more Asian Americans have become more involved in competitive dancing, the number of these groups and individuals that became internationally known has risen dramatically. In some cases, these former collegiate dance crews have gained the popularity of their predecessors because of their appearance. For example, one of the most notable breakdancers of the early 1990s was a group called "The L.A. Complex." The members of this group were all American, yet their attire was very unique, featuring long hair in the front and tight fitting pants in the back. Due to their unique style and attire, this group has become known as the "L.A. Complex." Although the original members of this group wore baggy jeans and roll-neck shirts, they were still able to attract a following in their own right because of their distinct style. Another group that gained fame through the efforts of collegiate hip-hop dancers was "The Billions." Formed in 1985, this group traveled to the United States performing at various colleges and universities. At the time, few people outside of the dance world knew anything about this group. Their popularity increased when "The Billions" performed at the College Football National Championship in 1985. This performance set the stage for modern collegiate dance crews such as "The L.A. Complex." In conclusion, American hip-hop dancing is an art form that originated in America. There have been many famous performers who have taken up the dance. Some of these include poets, musicians, and artists who had previously made their bones in other areas of the country. Even now, the dance is used for many different purposes, both for entertainment and to promote a cause important to Americans of all backgrounds.
